Monad Finally Goes Live: MON Token Debuts After Months of Anticipation

Monad Finally Goes Live: MON Token Debuts After Months of Anticipation
Table of contents

The long-awaited launch of the MON token for the Monad blockchain has finally taken place, marking a significant milestone for the project – and frankly, for the whole industry. As of today, MON is trading in the region of $0.03479 per token with a circulating supply of approximately 10.83 billion tokens, giving Monad an estimated market cap of about $376 million.

    Did TGE Delays Hurt Monad?

The excitement around the launch of Monad has been bubbling for months, driven in large part by multiple postponements of its Token Generation Event (TGE). Crypto twitter lit up repeatedly with speculation as each delay crept in, from tweaks to tokenomics to timing of the mainnet go-live. Moreover, there were prediction markets created for Monad’s TGE, generating tens of millions of dollars in volume. Each new announcement brought fresh hype and fresh frustration in equal measure. Many users felt the build-up was enormous and the postpones only amplified expectations.

Alongside the delay narrative, the planned airdrop of MON tokens became one of the most anticipated events in the crypto calendar this year. The project had publicly stated that around 3.3 billion MON tokens (3.3% of the 100 billion total supply) were airdropped to the community. The airdrop criteria were closely dissected: users who engaged in community tasks, governance participation, ecosystem contributions and under-hyped wallet activity all stood a chance of being eligible. The promise of free tokens naturally generated a frenzy of sign-ups, tweets, memes and screenshots, all to capture a slice of potential value.

The launch event itself was predicted for November 24, 2025 on Polymarket, coinciding with the public sale of MON via the Coinbase Global Token Sales platform. The sale offered 7.5 billion MON (7.5% of total supply) at a price of $0.025 per token. Many retail participants viewed this as a rare US-accessible public sale, adding to the eagerness. On social channels, phrases like “the next epoch layer-1” and “get in before it moons” circulated widely. Some traders even compared the build-up to past launches of major chains.

Yet, as the token went live and trading commenced, a mix of optimism and caution emerged. Early volume was respectable but not overwhelmingly high, and concerns over the tokenomics were vocal. Currently, over half of the supply remains locked, including large allocations for the team (~27 %) and investors (~19.7 %).

Crypto Twitter Sentiment: Is The Community Bullish on MON?

Hours after the launch, sentiment on X is still mixed as some are bullish, calling it the new blockchain era. Others, however, warned of the classic “hyped launch, weak follow-through” scenario. But regardless of viewpoint, one thing is clear: the hype machine succeeded in bringing wide awareness to Monad. For many users it wasn’t just about the token price, but about the narrative. The industry needed a new chain built from the ground up, emerging from multiple delays, and now ready for mainstream participation. Some are even comparing Monad to early-day Solana.

Time will tell whether Monad fulfills its promise of high-performance, EVM-compatible infrastructure with broad developer adoption. For now, the launch of MON has checked off a major milestone, bringing token and community together. Whether the momentum holds, and how the market responds in the weeks ahead, remains an unfolding story.
